Marlies Pöschl understands filmmaking as social practice and often collaborates with actors from outside the art world in search for polyphonic narrations and open-ended dramaturgies.

<description>Marlies Pöschl: Web of CareCreative documentary, 4K, 90 min, Farbe, stereoSynopsis

	Ever-normal Granary

2022, DE/AT, 4K Video, colour, stereo, 23 min

TrailerCredits
In the year in which this film is set, there was no summer. The grain remained in the ground. Apparently it was safely stored in&#38;nbsp; a large brick building. This film shifts through a labyrinthine structure, looking at the idea and architecture of the "ever normal granary”.

This refers to an idea originally from China, of a grain storage system that balances supply and demand and which offers stability due to its constant stock levels. But the seeming normality of the granary is disrupted and the grain starts to disappear.
In the voice-over, a manager and a mouse can be heard negotiating questions of economics, botany, food security, food speculation and logistics.

When food security is threatened, it becomes necessary to adopt new perspectives and acknowledge other kinds of knowledge. This film essay contrasts industrial food production with indigenous ecological perspectives and embodied knowledge: In the second part of the film, the performers awake from a long sleep. The choreography they perform refers to the book Braiding Sweetgrass (2013) by US plant ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer. The relationship between dance and composition, which is made up of natural, technological, human and more-than-human sounds, is an attempt to aesthetically reframe and rethink the relationship to the environment.

	The White Field

2022, FR/AT, 16mm transferred to HD,&#38;nbsp; colour, 3.1 sound, 13 minCredits
"The White Field" is a dialogue, it circumscribes the site of an encounter: between the filmmaker and a woman who has chosen to live without technology because it makes her sick. 76-year-old Jill constructs her habitat, the "white field", anew every day. The electrosensitive woman lives in her white Ford at an altitude of 1,400 m in the French Vercors Massif, 40 minutes away from the nearest village.
In lengthy journeys, she runs her daily errands, visits her friends and sometimes spends hours looking for places where she feels no electromagnetic radiation.

Shot on 16 mm with a wind-up Beaulieu camera, this essay film seeks to establish a recording process that does not create an electromagnetic field. It thereby translates the sensitivity of its protagonist into an artistic form and aesthetically traces the force fields in this life story.

Based solely on foley sounds which were only recorded afterwards, the soundtrack, achieves a hyper-realistic and at the same time artificial atmosphere, making Denton's
mode of perception palpable.

	Shadow Library

2021, AT, 4K Video, colour, stereo, 7 min

TrailerCreditsScreenings

In a near future, data is no longer stored in data centres but in the DNA of plants. During a presentation of the data garden of Cyan, an Austrian mobile phone manufacturer, this film accidentally leads us astray to a second, invisible "library" - the Shadow Library, which is stored on some of the plants.

In this way, this video addresses how the effects of globally unequal production relations inscribe themselves in plants, migrate with the plants and thus anchor themselves in collective memory.

The text in the second part of the video is based on poems by the Chinese poet Zheng Xiaoqiong, who addresses the living and working conditions of Chinese migrant workers in her work. The soundtrack of the film (‘Fern’ by Mileece) is based on the sonification of electric currents in plants.

DokumentationCredits

A young scientist from Guian, China, has developed a procedure with which she can store data in the DNA of plants as an alternative to existing data centres. She sends seeds to St. Gilgen in Austria in which secret information is stored and asks a relative of hers to grow it. The ‘Data Garden’ then sprouts and starts to grow. The plant contains memory fragments of the everyday life of a group of female migrant workers in a Chinese electronics factory. The people who assemble our mobile phones appear in a ghost-like way in St. Gilgen. The reality of the production conditions is superimposed ‘augmented reality’ on the place we see.

	Schatzalp

2021, TH/AT, 360 Grad VR, 13 min, colour, stereo

Director, camera, scriptwriter, editor, producer: Marlies Pöschl
Narrator: Franziskus Abgottspon
Sound design: Peter Kutin

This enigmatic ‘VR regional novel’ intertwines everyday life in a long-term resort for European seniors in Southeast Asia with fictionalized anecdotes based on memories of home that the ‘guests’ project onto this place. The invisible narrator, Beat, leads us through a place that seems just like any typical Swiss village. And yet it is as if the scenery is slightly out of place, as if we were in a virtual rift between one place and another.
Some of the things we encounter here appear to come from Thailand - one could almost get the impression that we are not in Switzerland at all! The text of the video, performed by an actor, is an aesthetically condensed fiction, drawing from conversations between the artist and residents of the resort. The narrator’s descriptions, although spoken clearly and confidently, are muddled, sometimes seemingly blurring different places and times together, which makes experiencing this film even more disorientating. Schatzalp is the first part of a larger project on this subject.
